She holds a Ph.D. in Urban Geography and advanced degrees in Education and Geography, with training from Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Dr. Sengupta is a national council member of the Association of Indian Principals and a recognized leader in curriculum enhancement, student well-being, and inclusive learning. She has received numerous accolades, including the Eldrok Principals Award (2024–25) and the Times Principals Award for Excellence in Education (2024). Beyond education, she co-runs the Calvin Foundation, dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of homeless animals.
