On October 9, 2024, The HDFC
School, Gurgaon, proudly hosted the Grade I Interdisciplinary Project themed "Flavours of India: A Journey Through Plants, Animals, and Cultural Delights." Students immersed themselves in the vibrant cultures of Manipur, Kerala, Haryana, and Gujarat through engaging, inquiry-driven activities. This project provided a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their creativity across various subjects while exploring the rich diversity of India’s plants, animals, and cultural traditions.

Students delved into the journey
of food, showcasing how plants and animals play a vital role in India’s rich culinary landscape. Their learning came alive through vibrant activities, including traditional dances, rap songs, experiments on adulteration, and poem compositions that celebrated India's diverse flavours. Cultural dances and songs enriched the vibrant atmosphere, providing students with a wonderful opportunity to express their artistic talents while discovering diverse regional cuisines.

The enthusiastic involvement of parents added lively touch to the event as they joyfully engaged in a variety of fun activities. As a memorable takeaway from the event, block-printed handkerchiefs crafted by the children were distributed, each conveying a meaningful message about sustainability and the richness of culture.

The event offered an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork in a captivating exhibition celebrating India’s rich culture. They found the experience both enjoyable and enriching, perfectly exemplifying the joy of learning through exploration and collaboration.

Trip to Ranthambore and Jaipur | The HDFC School, Gurgaon

School Trip to Ranthambore and Jaipur: A Journey of Adventure and Learning

Grades 6, 7, and 8 embarked on an unforgettable four-day trip to Ranthambore and Jaipur, packed with excitement, exploration, and growth. The highlight of the trip was the thrilling safari in Ranthambore, where students were lucky to spot incredible wildlife, including tigers, water snakes, monitor lizards, and graceful spotted and sambhar deer. A visit to the historic Ranthambore Fort and the revered Ganesha Temple added a touch of culture and spirituality to the adventure.

The students also explored the Dastkar market, a vibrant hub of handicrafts featuring a lovely collection of handcrafted items like bags, clothing, cases, pottery, and more, all made by rural communities to promote their culture and skills.

In Jaipur, the children marvelled at the treasures in the Albert Museum and enjoyed a magical twilight city tour, soaking in the vibrant architecture and history of the Pink City.

Beyond the sights, this trip was a valuable experience in developing essential life skills. Living and learning together, students gained independence, collaborated in groups, adapted to new environments, and reflected on their interactions to build stronger social connections. It was a journey that nurtured their curiosity, strengthened friendships, and left them with memories to cherish.

SPICMACAY | The HDFC School, Gurgaon

On 30 September 2024, The HDFC School,
Gurgaon had the privilege of hosting a SPICMACAY event that showcased the ancient martial art of Kalaripayattu. This event was a remarkable opportunity for our students to witness the rich cultural heritage of India. The skilled practitioners demonstrated various techniques and forms, leaving the audience in awe of their agility, strength, and discipline.

The impact on our learners was profound. Many students were inspired by the dedication and precision required in Kalaripayattu, which emphasized the importance of physical fitness, mental focus, and self-discipline. The event also fostered a deeper appreciation for traditional arts and their relevance in contemporary times. Students engaged in discussions about the history and philosophy behind Kalaripayattu, broadening their understanding of cultural diversity.

Fathers Day Celebration | The HDFC School, Gurgaon

We are delighted to share about the memorable Father's Day celebration at the HDFC School! The school buzzed with joy and anticipation as our children welcomed their real-life superheroes with tokens of gratitude. The event commenced with an exhilarating kite-flying activity. Children and their fathers bonded as their kites soared high, filling the sky with colours of happiness.

The Roots and Shoots activity beautifully highlighted the bond and teamwork between children and their fathers, as they planted saplings together, creating memories to last for a lifetime. We were equally thrilled to witness the fathers' enthusiastic spirit and competitive energy during the Spoon and Lemon races, adding excitement and fun to the event.

Children also showcased their energy and enthusiasm through a vibrant dance performance. In a delightful twist, the fathers demonstrated their hidden culinary talents during a fireless cooking activity. The dish prepared by them was a true reflection of culinary excellence, proving once again that they are our heroes quietly shaping our lives with their strength and dedication.

To commemorate the legendary Walter Elias Disney, the creator of Mickey Mouse and founder of Disneyland and Walt Disney World, a special assembly was conducted by the students of grade IIB.
Our little ones, who were adorned with the beautiful attires, walked merrily portraying themselves as Mickey and Minnie Mouse and reminded us of the magic of childhood — a time when dreams had wings, and our imagination made everything possible. They shared the significance of this day and briefed the audience about Walt Disney`s life and works. This was followed by a melodious song `Let It Go` which left the audience mesmerized. Furthermore, the students enthralled everyone with their spectacular dance performance. The energy of the performance was contagious and left the audience in awe of them.

National Youth Parliament 2022 (The HDFC School, Gurgaon)

On 25 th August 2022, the first session of the National Youth Parliament 2022 was simulated which represented the Lower House - Lok Sabha of the Indian Parliament. The session was graced by an esteemed Member of Parliament, Shri Dharambir Singh along with parents, students, and the faculty members of the school fraternity. Ms. Anita Makkar, Principal and Education Leader emphasized the integral role of youth to further strengthen the pillars of democracy and work towards building of a strong foundation. Fifty-three delegates were dressed in ethnic and formal Indian attire and represented as proposition and opposition speakers. Different agendas were raised ranging from amendments in NEP to women reservation bill which were adroitly articulated by the speakers. Additionally, the speakers deliberated on tackling issues related to inflation, improvisation of infrastructure etc. which are equally important to lead the nation forward. Overall, the session culminated with refreshments and an elated cohort who looks forward to another enchanting and informative session next year.

As the school session is embarking towards the beginning of a new session, the little stars of Grade KG of The HDFC School, Gurgaon hosted a magnificent Inter-Disciplinary Project on 25.02.22.

They enchanted the spectators by giving spectacular performances on the theme ‘Universe’ exhibiting some eccentric facts of space. The students depicted the presentation in the form of a dream by exploring the magical wonders of the Universe.

The children delivered their performances with vigour and enthusiasm. They delighted their audience by dancing sensationally to various songs dedicated to planets in our Solar System. It was an expedition of imagination and integration of language and arts together. This lively presentation not only honed the creative mindset of the students but also provided a great joy to parents and children alike.

Experiential Learning- Project

Experiential learning is the backbone of the 21st-century educational setup. The HDFC School, Gurgaon resolutely believes in an erudite and pragmatic approach towards acquiring knowledge.

The teachers of our school recently participated in a 4-week program of Co-Creative Experiential Learning Training mentored by the team of Mahatma Gandhi International School, Ahmedabad. They executed a marvelous ‘Calendar-Making Project’ with Grade V students.

In this interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary project, the students took ownership of making five digital calendars based on the theme of ‘Transport and Communication’. The concepts of Science, English, Hindi, Mathematics, ICT, Social Studies, and Foreign Languages were integrated splendidly in this project. They fabricated mesmerizing calendar leaves with handcrafted artwork and explored digital tools like Canva and Adobe Spark. Catch a glimpse of their work:

IDP Pre-primary

The Interdisciplinary project exemplifies how our young learners demonstrate their understanding of concepts across disciplines covered in classrooms, by participating in a variety of art-integrated activities based on specific themes. The HDFC School, Gurgaon hosted yet another Inter-Disciplinary Project virtually for grades I-II. Our young learners delivered powerful and memorable performances on the themes ‘’The Universe’’ and ‘’Rocks and Minerals’’.

The students of Grade I suited up as astronauts and planets, enacted a role play where they travelled all around the universe. They built their own day and night craft, UFOs with the green aliens on them, and performed jugalbandi, which was a total blast.

Learners of Grade II gussied up as famous people from various timelines, shared facts and figures about rocks and minerals, transporting the audience to the seven wonders of the world. They demonstrated their expertise by displaying handcrafted volcano models and landforms, as well as sharing the scientific process of a rock cycle.

Our students intricately decorated their backgrounds with their own handiwork and virtual backdrops. It was a visual treat to see their hard work shine through. We value their commitment, enthusiasm, and exceptional ability to carry out the entire IDP. It was truly a collaborative effort.

2022 Republic Day Celebrations @The HDFC School, Gurgaon

On the prosperous occasion of India’s 73rd Republic Day, the student council heads of the HDFC School, Gurgaon, commemorated the event with a series of culturally diverse activities, under the guidance of Principal ma’am and the teaching faculty. Ranging from dance and musical performances fervent with youthful nationalism, students from kindergarten and primary school presented instrumental renditions of Vande Mataram, oratory speeches from the founders of the Indian republic, and poetry narrations celebrating the iconic Indian figures in Indian history. The session ended with a collective oath aiming to strive forward and carry the legacy of our nation to greater heights.

International Yoga Day Celebration

The HDFC School, Gurgaon celebrated the 7th International Day of Yoga with great spirit and enthusiasm through a virtual zoom session on 21 June 2021. The parents, students and teachers of the school participated in the session where our yoga instructor Ms. Malem Hawaibam Devi and our sports coach Mr. Nishad Singh Kanyal through guided demonstrations allowed the people to turn their senses inward and establish the connect between the mind and the self.

Head Girl Nitika Sood opened the session by greeting everyone. Her ebullience set the tone for the session. School Principal Mrs. Anita Makkar welcomed all the parents and appreciated their gesture of being a part of this endeavour to mark the significance of Yoga in our lives. She drew attention to the fact that such sessions not only bring parents, teachers and students together as a community but also encourage to maintain a healthy living. It’s an invisible human chain to promote holistic wellness.

The Yoga session started with the soulful chant of the Gayatri Mantra by Ms. Shruti Rishi and Mr. Angad Kukreja, followed by the warm up exercises. Various asanas like the surya namaskar, ushtrasand, shashankasana, ardha matsyendrasana, savasana were performed and the importance of each was explained simultaneously. Advanced Yoga asanas were also demonstrated by the students.

The event was a grand success. While it was a rejuvenating morning for all, it was purposeful too. The session apprised every one of the benefits of practicing yoga and inspired them to focus on physical, emotional and mental well-being. Performing the asanas in unison though virtually, created a reverberating and nourishing life force exuberating peace, tranquility and positivity in the comfort and safe environment of our homes. The session helped us strengthen the need to balance our daily routines with a mix of work and relaxation and sowed the seed of inspiration to adopt Yoga as a regular practice.

The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Raghav Varma, the Head Boy, who made sure that parents, teachers and students promise to themselves to make health and wellness their priority.

Green Haryana - Paudhagiri 2019 @ The HDFC School, Gurgaon

‘I Plant , I Care’ -- Under the 'Green Haryana–Paudhagiri' campaign, our students were given saplings to be planted in the school or at their homes or in parks. As a part of this campaign, each student who plants a sapling, has to take care of it for the next three years and will have to upload their picture with the plant every six months.

The students were thrilled to get this opportunity of making their own small contribution towards saving the environment. Beaming smiles and happy poses, these young enthusiasts are ready to make a difference .

Junior School Annual Day Celebrations @The HDFC School, Gurgaon

It was a dazzling musical evening at the school. Our little performers from Pre- Nursery to Grade 1, filled with such effervescence, showcased their talent on their Annual Gala. The programme commenced in the school amphitheatre, with the Lighting of the ceremonious lamp by the Chief Guest Mrs. Madhumita Ganguli School Principal and the eminent dignitaries. Principal Mrs. Anita Makkar expressed a heartfelt thanks to the Chief Guest, Members of the Board, Trustees and distinguished guests and parents who graced the auspicious occasion. Foot – tapping music, energetic dance performances enthralled the audience. The students presented Daffodils- a Recital and sang Octopus’ Garden by the legendary rock band The Beatles. The students revisited ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin’, and stole every heart with their stupendous theatrical and dance performances.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) is observed every year on 31st October to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

A special assembly was organised on National Unity Day at The HDFC School, Gurgaon. Students presented a thought provoking narration on the need and importance of staying united. Our Head Girl and our Head Boy administered the unity pledge. Talking about Sardar Patel’s invaluable contribution in channelizing India’s unity, Principal Mrs. Anita Makkar urged the students to be judicious and responsible citizens and contribute to the country’s progress.

Independence Day Celebrations

Independence Day was celebrated with great zest and patriotic fervor. Principal Mrs. Anita Makkar unfurled the ‘Tiranga’ to begin the celebration. In her address to the students, Mrs. Makkar spoke about how Indians are making their presence felt in every field across the globe and how the students can be instrumental in the progress and prosperity of the nation.

Kinder Dance Program

A Low Stress Year End Recital was organised by The HDFC School, Gurgaon on January 19th, 2018, where our young learners showcased the basics of ballet, tap, acrobatics and basic gymnastics. It was pure ecstasy to watch these little kids perform with poise and confidence.

Our 71st Independence Day was celebrated with great fervour and patriotism at The HDFC School. Principal Mrs. Anita Makkar unfurled the National Flag and spoke about how we can all contribute to our nation’s progress. The way we conduct ourselves will shape our future and therefore we all need to be mindful, empathetic and prudent. Our students expressed their thoughts and ideas through speech, songs and poems. The jaunty and foot tapping rendition of ‘Ki Hum Sab Ek Hai’ made every heart sing. A mesmerizing Odissi dance performance on ‘Vande Mataram’ and a performance depicting the innocence and charm of Lord Krishna dazzled the audience. Wishing everyone a very Happy Independence Day.

Show and Tell Session

At The HDFC School, in our approach for a holistic learning, we leave no stone unturned inorder to create opportunities for children to think, express, reflect, create and develop their emotional quotient. Keeping this in mind, a Show and Tell activity was organised on 5th Feb for Nursery and Kindergarten children. Children chose topics like solar system, clouds, eagles, museums etc and confidently spoke on the same. The Show and Tell activity helps children to learn and to communicate their feelings, thoughts and emotions through words. It is a socially rewarding activity as it boosts their confidence and thus is academically advantageous for young children.

The 67th Republic Day was celebrated in all its solemnity and grandeur at The HDFC School.
